Powered by a robust 8.9 HP Kohler® CH395 single-cylinder, 4-cycle, overhead valve (OHV) air-cooled gasoline engine, this unit delivers reliable performance for light-to-medium duty applications. The engine features a cast-iron cylinder liner for durability and a 1.9-gallon fuel tank, consuming approximately 0.74 gallons per hour at rated load, ensuring efficient operation during extended tasks.

As a welding power source, the Bulldog 5500 provides up to 140 Amps of AC Stick (SMAW) output. The AC output is particularly effective for welding with common electrodes such as 6011, 6013, and 7018 AC, making it suitable for mild steel, stainless steel, and hardfacing applications. The unit supports electrode diameters up to 1/8 inch (3.2 mm). The arc characteristics are tuned for stability, allowing for consistent bead appearance and penetration even in less-than-ideal conditions.

The integrated generator offers 5,500 Watts of surge power and 4,000 Watts of continuous power. This single-phase AC auxiliary power is delivered through standard 120V and 240V receptacles, capable of driving power tools such as grinders, drills, and work lights, or serving as an emergency backup power source for sump pumps and household appliances.
