The Lincoln Electric K610-2 MIG Conversion Kit is a comprehensive hardware assembly designed specifically to expand the capabilities of the Weld-Pak 155 and Weld-Pak 5000 HD welding power sources. These units are often shipped as flux-cored only machines; this kit provides the necessary internal and external components to enable Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW). The core component of this kit is the electromechanical gas solenoid valve, rated for 208/230V input power, which integrates directly into the machine's control circuit to manage shielding gas flow synchronously with the trigger pull.

Beyond the solenoid, the kit addresses the entire gas delivery system. It includes a gas regulator designed for Argon and Argon-blend mixed gases, ensuring precise flow rates essential for stable arc characteristics. For operators utilizing 100% CO2 shielding gas, a specific adapter for CO2 cylinders is also provided, offering versatility in gas selection based on the welding application and cost considerations. The included hoses and connectors are pre-fitted to match the Lincoln Electric machine ports, ensuring a leak-free pneumatic circuit from the cylinder to the wire feeder.

On the consumable side, the K610-2 kit retrofits the existing gun assembly for solid wire performance. It supplies a replacement cable liner sized for .025-.030 inch (0.6-0.8mm) wire, replacing the standard flux-cored liner which may be too large or contaminated for optimal solid wire feeding. Two .025 inch contact tips and a dedicated gas nozzle are included to shape the gas coverage over the weld pool. To allow for immediate testing and calibration, Lincoln Electric includes a 2 lb. spool of their premium SuperArc L-56 mild steel MIG wire (.025 inch diameter), known for its high levels of deoxidizers (manganese and silicon) which help tolerate light mill scale and surface contaminants.

Installation is guided by comprehensive instructions included in the package. This kit is strictly for the 208/230V versions of the specified Weld-Pak models and is not compatible with 115V units due to the voltage rating of the solenoid valve. By installing this kit, the equipment's utility is significantly broadened, allowing for the welding of thinner gauge materials with superior bead aesthetics and minimal post-weld cleanup compared to the flux-cored process.
