The Walter 12-E-449 is a high-performance 7-inch bench grinding wheel designed specifically for the unique demands of grinding and sharpening cemented carbide tools. Unlike standard aluminum oxide wheels which are intended for steel, this wheel utilizes premium Green Silicon Carbide abrasive grains. This material is harder and sharper, allowing it to cut through extremely hard carbide substrates without glazing over or generating excessive heat that could damage the tool.

With an 80-grit composition, this wheel is optimized for finishing and sharpening operations where edge quality is paramount. It provides a smooth surface finish and a keen edge on drill bits, lathe tools, and milling cutters. The vitrified bond holds the abrasive grains securely, ensuring the wheel maintains its geometry over time while still breaking down at a controlled rate to expose fresh cutting points.

Versatility is a key feature of the Walter bench wheel line. Each unit comes equipped with a set of nested reducer bushings. While the native arbor hole is 1 inch, these bushings allow the wheel to be safely mounted on 3/4-inch, 5/8-inch, and 1/2-inch shafts, covering the vast majority of bench and pedestal grinders on the market.
