The Miller 278617 is the OEM replacement Auto-Darkening Filter (ADF) assembly specifically engineered for the Miller T94i™ series welding helmets. This component is the technological core of the helmet, housing the liquid crystal display, sensors, and control electronics. It is designed to fit seamlessly into the T94i shell, maintaining the helmet's balance and optical alignment. The assembly incorporates Miller's proprietary ClearLight™ Lens Technology, which optimizes the spectral transmission of the lens to provide a more natural, high-definition view of the weld puddle and surrounding area. This technology enhances contrast and clarity in both the light state (Shade 3.0) and welding states.

Technically, the lens features four independent arc sensors that provide redundant detection capabilities, ensuring rapid switching speeds of 1/20,000 of a second. A critical feature for industrial applications is the inclusion of X-Mode™. Unlike standard optical sensors that can be triggered by sunlight or blocked by obstructions, X-Mode™ utilizes electromagnetic sensing to detect the magnetic field of the welding arc. This ensures the lens darkens only when an arc is present, making it ideal for outdoor welding or applications where the sensors might be physically obstructed.
