Designed to operate at an inlet pressure of 50 PSIG, this unit is versatile enough to be attached directly to regulators or integrated into shop pipeline installations via its standard 1/4-inch (6mm) NPT female inlet. The core of the device is its high-precision flow tube, manufactured from shatter-resistant polycarbonate resin (Lexan). This material choice ensures longevity and safety in rugged shop conditions where glass tubes might fail.

Technically, the H2230A stands out due to its multi-gas calibration. The flow tube features a triple-scale reading capability, providing accurate flow measurements for Argon, Helium, and Argon/CO2 mixtures without the need for changing tubes or complex conversion factors. The scale is expanded on an extra-long tube, offering readability and accuracy within 3% (to 5%) of the full-scale reading. A critical engineering feature is the exclusive ball-centering guide. In standard flowmeters, the ball float can drift off-center, allowing gas to bypass and resulting in erroneous flow indications.
