The Smith Toughcut MB55A-300 is a comprehensive medium-duty oxy-acetylene outfit engineered for reliability and versatility in industrial and agricultural environments. This specific configuration features a CGA 300 acetylene regulator connection, designed for commercial acetylene cylinders with female valves (unlike the male CGA 510 or smaller B/MC tanks). At the core of this system is the WH100 torch handle and CC509P cutting attachment, both utilizing Smith's renowned engineering standards.

A standout feature of the Toughcut series is the Graf-Tite® soft seat technology found in the cutting tips. Unlike traditional metal-to-metal seals that can be easily damaged by overtightening or debris, Graf-Tite seats are made from a resilient material that compresses to form a positive, leak-proof seal. This design protects the tip seating area from nicks and extends the service life of both the tip and the torch head. Furthermore, the Slip-in tip design simplifies operation; after the initial wrench tightening, tips can often be hand-tightened for quick changes between cutting, welding, and heating applications.

Safety and durability are paramount in the MB55A-300. The outfit employs an in-tip mix technology, where oxygen and fuel gas are mixed only within the tip itself, rather than in the torch handle or tubes. This significantly reduces the risk of flashback and mixing tube burnout. The cutting attachment features a three-tube construction with thick-wall stainless steel tubes, keeping gases separated until the point of mixing. The torch handle utilizes a tube-within-a-tube design, silver-brazed for exceptional strength and leak resistance, while internal threads protect the connection points from impact damage if the torch is dropped.

The kit includes the rugged Series 30 medium-duty regulators, which provide consistent flow control and are built to withstand the rigors of daily shop use. With the included tips, operators can weld up to 1/8-inch steel and cut up to 5/8-inch steel immediately out of the box. With optional tips, the system's capacity expands to cut up to 6-inch steel and weld up to 1/2-inch plate, making it a scalable solution for growing fabrication needs.
