The Smith TL-500 Tag-A-Long Acetylene Outfit is a comprehensive, portable solution designed for industrial maintenance, HVAC applications, and general fabrication where mobility is paramount. This outfit is engineered around the robust CW5A torch handle and CC509P cutting attachment, providing a versatile platform for cutting, welding, brazing, and heating operations. The system utilizes Acetylene fuel gas and is capable of cutting steel up to 6 inches thick when equipped with the appropriate optional tips, making it a surprisingly powerful tool given its compact footprint.

At the core of this outfit are the Series 30 regulators (30-100-540 for Oxygen and 30-15-200 for Acetylene). These regulators are designed to provide consistent flow rates and pressure control, essential for maintaining a stable flame during precision work. The torch handle itself features a “tube-within-a-tube” design, where the internal tube is silver brazed for maximum leak resistance and structural integrity. This double-tube handle construction significantly reduces weight while maintaining the strength required for daily industrial use. Furthermore, the torch body is nickel-plated, a specification chosen to deflect radiant heat and resist rust and corrosion in harsh environments.

The outfit is housed in a high-density polyethylene carrier. This material selection offers superior impact resistance compared to traditional metal totes, which are prone to denting and rusting. The carrier design includes a dedicated hose wrap and a covered storage compartment for accessories, ensuring that tips, lighters, and glasses are protected during transport. Crucially, the system includes reverse flow check valves (H753) which mount to the regulators, providing a critical layer of safety by preventing gas backflow. The tips included in this package utilize Graf-Tite seat material, a resilient soft seat that protects the seating areas from nicking, thereby maintaining positive seating and requiring less frequent replacement than metal-to-metal designs.
