The Miller Weld-Mask™ 2 (SKU: 280982) is a specialized ocular protection system designed to address the ergonomic and spatial limitations of traditional welding helmets in industrial environments. Engineered for maintenance, repair, and construction applications where clearance is minimal, this unit combines the optical performance of a high-end auto-darkening filter (ADF) with the low-profile form factor of safety goggles. The system provides a variable shade range of 5-13, making it versatile enough for Gas Welding, Cutting, MIG, TIG, and Stick processes. The optical assembly features a fast reaction time of 1/25,000 second, ensuring immediate protection from arc flash.

A defining technical feature of the Weld-Mask 2 is the integration of Miller’s proprietary X-Mode™ technology. In standard auto-darkening lenses, photo-sensors rely on line-of-sight to the arc to trigger the darkening phase. In complex industrial settings—such as pipe welding in recesses or outdoor construction with direct sunlight—these sensors can be blocked or overwhelmed. X-Mode utilizes an electromagnetic sensor to detect the magnetic field generated by the welding arc, triggering the lens independently of optical visibility. This ensures consistent protection even when the user’s view of the arc is partially obstructed or when welding in bright sunlight.

Ergonomically, the Weld-Mask 2 is designed for compliance and integration with other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It features a singular, wide face guard and a flame-retardant cotton head shroud that provides comprehensive coverage against UV/IR radiation and limited spatter. Crucially, the unit is engineered to fit seamlessly under standard hard hats without the need for proprietary adapters, simplifying job site compliance. The internal cavity is spacious enough to accommodate the Miller® LPR-100™ Half Mask Respirator and Miller® Classic safety glasses, ensuring that respiratory and impact protection are not compromised for the sake of compactness. With a TIG rating down to 5 amps, this device offers professional-level sensitivity in a package that significantly reduces neck torque and fatigue compared to full-sized hoods.

Industrial-Grade Compact Protection for Restricted Access Welding The Miller Weld-Mask™ 2 (SKU: 280982) is a specialized ocular protection system designed to address the ergonomic and spatial limitations of traditional welding helmets in industrial environments.
