The Miller 248995 Kit, Throttle Solenoid with Bracket, is a critical electromechanical component designed for specific engine-driven welding power sources. In the context of industrial maintenance and repair operations (MRO), this solenoid serves as the primary actuator for the machine’s automatic idle system. When the welding machine’s control board detects an arc strike or a load on the auxiliary power outlets, it energizes this solenoid to mechanically pull the engine throttle linkage from the low-idle position to the high-idle (run) speed. Conversely, when the load is removed, the solenoid de-energizes or reverses state to allow the engine to return to a fuel-saving idle speed.<\/p>\n
Failure of the throttle solenoid typically results in the engine remaining at low idle regardless of load, preventing the generator from producing full welding output or auxiliary power, or conversely, getting stuck at high idle, which increases fuel consumption and unnecessary noise. This kit is engineered to meet the precise resistance and stroke length specifications of Miller control systems. The inclusion of the bracket is significant; engine vibration often causes fatigue cracks in mounting hardware over time. By replacing both the solenoid and the bracket simultaneously, technicians ensure rigid mounting and correct alignment of the plunger with the throttle linkage, which is essential for preventing binding and ensuring long-term reliability.<\/p>\n
