The ESAB Shield XR 5.1mm (.200″), identified by part number 0558009551, is a critical consumable component engineered specifically for the PT-36 plasma cutting torch system. This shield is designed to facilitate high-amperage mechanized cutting operations where precision and durability are paramount. The PT-36 torch is widely recognized in industrial environments for its capability to handle heavy-duty plate cutting, and the Shield XR plays a vital role in this process by protecting the inner nozzle and electrode from the intense heat and molten metal blowback generated during the piercing and cutting phases.

Technically, the shield features a precision-machined 5.1mm (0.200 inch) orifice. This specific diameter is calculated to match the flow requirements of the shielding gas and the plasma arc column at specific amperage settings. By maintaining the correct standoff distance and gas flow dynamics, the shield ensures that the plasma arc remains constricted and stable, which is essential for achieving square edges and minimizing dross. The “XR” designation typically denotes extended performance characteristics or specific geometry optimizations that ESAB has developed to enhance the lifespan of the consumable under rigorous duty cycles.

This product is supplied in a package of 5, allowing maintenance teams and operators to maintain adequate stock levels for continuous production. As an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part, it guarantees seamless compatibility with the PT-36 torch head, preventing issues related to gas leakage or electrical conductivity that can arise with aftermarket alternatives. The shield is manufactured in the United States, adhering to ESAB’s strict quality control protocols. Proper inspection and replacement of the shield are necessary to prevent damage to the torch body and to ensure consistent cut quality over the life of the consumables.

ESAB Shield XR 5.1mm (.200″) for PT-36 Plasma Torches The ESAB Shield XR 5.1mm (.200″), identified by part number 0558009551, is a critical consumable component engineered specifically for the PT-36 plasma cutting torch system.
