The Walter Surface Technologies 54B040 Surfox Standard Pads are a critical consumable component for the Surfox electrochemical weld cleaning system. Engineered to facilitate the safe and efficient removal of heat tint, oxidation, and discoloration from stainless steel welds, these pads serve as the conductive interface between the system’s tungsten electrode and the workpiece. The pads are manufactured from a specialized synthetic fiber that is highly porous to allow for the free flow of electrolyte solution, yet dense enough to maintain structural integrity under the mechanical pressure of scrubbing.

One of the defining technical characteristics of the 54B040 pads is their high thermal resistance. Capable of withstanding temperatures up to 500°F (260°C), they are designed to endure the localized heat generated during the electrochemical reaction without melting or degrading rapidly. This thermal stability is essential for maintaining a consistent electrical arc and ensuring that the passivation process—the restoration of the chromium oxide layer on the stainless steel—occurs uniformly across the weld zone. These pads are specifically optimized for use with the standard 90° tungsten insert and the corresponding clamping ring, making them the standard choice for the majority of TIG, spot, and pulsed MIG weld cleaning applications.

In an industrial setting, the reliability of consumables directly impacts cycle time and finish quality. The Surfox Standard Pads ensure that the electrolyte is distributed evenly, preventing hot spots or arcing that could damage the base metal. They are compatible with the entire range of Surfox machines, including the Surfox 104, 204, and 304 units. By utilizing these OEM-specified pads, operators ensure that the system operates at peak efficiency, delivering AC or DC current effectively to clean and passivate simultaneously. The pads are non-abrasive, meaning they clean chemically rather than mechanically, preserving the surface finish of the stainless steel, whether it is a mirror polish or a brushed finish.

[2000,2011

post-1750999","product","type-product","status-publish","product_cat-abrasives","product_cat-backing-pads","pa_brand-walter","pa_packaging-description-1-in-a-pack","pa_packaging-description-10-in-a-pack-2","first","onbackorder","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple
