The Hobart Hoballoy 11018-M is a premium quality, low-hydrogen, iron powder electrode designed specifically for the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process on high-strength steels. Engineered to meet the rigorous AWS A5.5 specifications for the E11018-M classification, this electrode is formulated to deposit weld metal with a minimum tensile strength of 100,000 psi, making it suitable for joining quenched and tempered steels such as HY-80, HY-100, and T-1 (A514). The "M" suffix indicates a military-grade formulation that adheres to stricter moisture control and mechanical property requirements, ensuring reliability in critical structural applications.



The electrode features a moisture-resistant coating that significantly reduces the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking (cold cracking), a common challenge when welding high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) materials. The addition of iron powder to the coating enhances deposition efficiency, allowing for faster travel speeds and increased productivity compared to standard non-iron-powder electrodes. The weld deposit chemistry is a carefully balanced Manganese-Nickel-Molybdenum system, providing not only high strength but also excellent toughness and ductility, even at sub-zero temperatures.
