The Exocor Executive ERCuAl-A3 Aluminum Bronze TIG Rod is a premium quality filler metal designed for the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process. Manufactured to meet strict AWS A5.7 specifications, this rod is classified as ERCuAl-A3. It is characterized by a higher aluminum content than the standard A2 grade, typically containing between 10% and 11% aluminum. This specific composition results in a deposit with significantly higher yield strength, tensile strength, and hardness, making it an exceptional choice for applications where mechanical integrity and durability are paramount.

This alloy is specifically engineered for joining and repairing aluminum bronze castings of similar composition. However, its utility extends far beyond simple joining. The Executive ERCuAl-A3 is widely utilized for overlay applications on bearing surfaces, wear plates, and other components subjected to heavy metal-to-metal wear or high compressive loads. Its microstructure provides excellent resistance to galling and scoring, which is critical for moving parts in heavy machinery. Furthermore, the alloy exhibits outstanding corrosion resistance, particularly in marine environments involving salt water and brackish water, as well as resistance to many acids.

Technically, this rod requires clean joint preparation and proper shielding gas management (typically 100% Argon) to prevent oxide inclusion. It can be used to weld dissimilar metals, such as joining aluminum bronzes to steel, cast iron, or copper-nickel alloys, provided proper procedures are followed. The 1/8-inch (3.2mm) diameter offers good deposition rates for medium-to-heavy wall thicknesses. Each rod is 36 inches in length and stamped for identification, ensuring quality control and traceability in industrial environments.
