OVERVIEW

Industrial Grade Abrasion Resistance

The Hobart Hardalloy 148 is a premium 3/16-inch hardfacing stick electrode designed specifically for applications subjected to severe abrasion and low-to-moderate impact. Engineered with a high chromium carbide chemistry, this electrode deposits a weld metal consisting of primary chromium carbides in an austenitic matrix. This metallurgical structure delivers a typical hardness of Rc 55-60, making it an excellent choice for extending the service life of industrial components in mining, agriculture, and construction environments.

Packaged in a durable 10 lb can, the Hardalloy 148 is formulated to operate efficiently on both AC and DC+ (Reverse Polarity) currents. The electrode provides a smooth arc with moderate penetration, minimizing dilution with the base metal to maintain high hardness values even in the first pass. It is important to note that the deposit is non-machinable and can only be finished by grinding. The weld metal will naturally develop cross-checking (stress relief cracks), which is a normal and desirable characteristic for high-alloy hardfacing deposits to prevent spalling.
