The ESAB OK 67.60 is a high-performance, acid-rutile coated stick electrode classified as E309L-17. Engineered for the most demanding industrial applications, this consumable is the industry standard for joining stainless steels (AISI 309 type) to mild or low-alloy carbon steels. Its over-alloyed composition (approximately 24% Cr, 13% Ni) is specifically calculated to handle the dilution from carbon steel base metals while maintaining a high-quality, crack-resistant austenitic stainless steel weld deposit.

One of the critical technical advantages of the OK 67.60 is its low carbon content (indicated by the 'L' designation), which significantly reduces the risk of carbide precipitation and subsequent intergranular corrosion. This makes it an excellent choice for applications where corrosion resistance is paramount. Furthermore, the electrode produces a weld metal with a substantial ferrite number, providing robust resistance to hot cracking—a common challenge when welding dissimilar heavy sections.

The '17' coating designation implies a silica-titania based flux that supports both AC and DC+ polarity. This coating formulation delivers a smooth, spray-type transfer with very low spatter levels and a flat to slightly concave bead profile. The slag system is designed to be self-detaching in many cases, reducing post-weld cleaning time and improving overall productivity. It is also widely used for depositing buffer layers on carbon steel before overlaying with 308L or 316L filler metals.
