The Central Wire ER309LSi is a premium quality stainless steel solid wire designed for the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process. This 0.030-inch diameter wire is supplied on a 33 lb spool, making it suitable for industrial fabrication environments requiring extended welding durations with fewer changeovers. The 'LSi' designation indicates a low carbon modification with a higher silicon content than standard 309 grades.

This specific alloy composition is engineered primarily for welding dissimilar metals, such as joining Type 304 stainless steel to mild or carbon steel. It is also extensively used for depositing buffer layers on carbon steel prior to cladding with 308 or 316 grades. The increased silicon content significantly improves the wetting characteristics of the molten weld pool, allowing for faster travel speeds and a flatter, more aesthetically pleasing bead profile. This improved fluidity also helps to minimize undercut and ensures smooth tie-ins at the toes of the weld.

The low carbon content (0.03% maximum) helps prevent carbide precipitation during the welding process, thereby maintaining the corrosion resistance of the weldment and reducing the risk of intergranular corrosion. This wire exhibits excellent resistance to oxidation at high temperatures and provides a stable arc with minimal spatter when used with appropriate shielding gases.
