Industrial Grade ER5356 Aluminum MIG Wire

The Nexalloy ER5356 Aluminum MIG Welding Wire is a premium general-purpose filler metal designed for the rigorous demands of industrial fabrication. Composed of an aluminum-magnesium alloy containing approximately 5% magnesium, this wire meets AWS A5.10 specifications. It is the most widely used welding alloy for the 5000 series base metals and is structurally compatible with many 6000 series alloys. Its chemical composition provides relatively high shear strength, making it superior to 4043 alloys in structural applications where durability is paramount.

One of the defining characteristics of the Nexalloy 5356 is its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly when exposed to saltwater. This makes it the standard specification for shipbuilding, marine fabrication, and offshore structural components. Additionally, the alloy responds well to post-weld anodizing, offering a much closer color match to the base metal compared to the dark gray finish often resulting from 4043 silicon-based alloys.

From a processing standpoint, the 0.035-inch diameter wire is precision wound on a 5lb spool, designed to fit standard wire feeders and spool guns. The inherent stiffness of the 5356 alloy facilitates smoother feeding through push-pull systems and standard MIG guns, reducing the likelihood of bird-nesting often associated with softer aluminum wires. It is recommended for use with Direct Current Electrode Positive (DCEP) polarity and 100% Argon shielding gas, though Argon/Helium mixtures may be employed for thicker sections requiring greater heat input.
