OVERVIEW

Technical Overview of the Smith GA140-03 Pressure Gauge

The Smith Equipment GA140-03 is a precision-engineered replacement pressure gauge designed for the delivery (working pressure) side of industrial gas regulators. Engineered to meet the rigorous demands of welding, cutting, and HVAC applications, this instrument features a dual-scale dial reading from 0 to 200 PSIG and 0 to 14 BAR. The gauge is constructed with a robust steel case, providing necessary protection for the internal mechanism against external impacts common in shop environments. The inlet nipple is machined from brass, ensuring a secure, corrosion-resistant seal when mated with standard regulator bodies.

Accuracy and safety are paramount in gas regulation equipment. The GA140-03 utilizes a watch-type precision movement, which offers smooth needle operation and accurate pressure indication, critical for maintaining stable flow rates in oxy-fuel or shielding gas processes. The face is a high-visibility cupped steel design, ensuring legibility even in variable lighting conditions. For safety, the gauge is U.L. Listed and features a one-piece polycarbonate crystal. This crystal is shatterproof, eliminating the hazard of flying glass in the event of a pressure spike or physical damage. Additionally, the crystal design includes a protective lip that guards the face of the gauge from direct contact damage.

Installation is standardized via a 1/4-inch Male National Pipe Thread (MNPT) connection, typically oriented for bottom mounting. This thread size is the industry standard for the majority of gas pressure regulators, making the GA140-03 a versatile stock item for maintenance departments. It is compatible with all major brands of gas pressure regulators that utilize 1/4" FNPT gauge inlet threads. The unit is designed for service pressures up to 200 PSIG, making it suitable for oxygen, inert gases, and other non-corrosive gas applications where delivery pressure monitoring is required.
