When paired with the appropriate stubby collet body (typically the 17CB20 series) and a corresponding alumina nozzle, this collet effectively shortens the total length of the torch head. This modification alters the geometry of the torch front end, bringing the physical dimensions closer to that of a smaller 9 or 20 series torch, while retaining the higher amperage capacity of the larger torch bodies.
