The Aquasol AFBT-2.5 Fiback Fiberglass Welding Backing Tape is an advanced solution designed to streamline the welding process for pressure vessels, large bore pipes, and heavy plate fabrication. Engineered to support molten weld pools at currents up to 600 Amps, this backing tape provides a reliable barrier that shapes the root bead while preventing oxidation. By utilizing a high-temperature fiberglass strip centered on an aluminum foil adhesive, Fiback eliminates the necessity for traditional back purging, significantly reducing inert gas consumption and setup times in industrial environments.

The central fiberglass strip is heat-resistant up to 1,022°F (550°C), ensuring structural integrity during the deposition of the root pass. Surrounding this strip is a heavy-duty aluminum foil coated with a halogen-free acrylic adhesive, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 500°F (260°C). This dual-material construction allows the tape to conform tightly to curved surfaces and irregular geometries, ensuring a seal that effectively contains the weld pool.
