OVERVIEW

Precision Material Removal with Walter Carbide Burrs

The Walter Carbide Burr SG-5 DC (SKU: 01V013) represents the pinnacle of rotary file technology for industrial applications. Engineered from the finest grade of tungsten carbide, this tool is designed to withstand the rigorous demands of heavy-duty metalworking. The manufacturing process prioritizes flawless concentricity, which is critical for high-speed operations; this balance eliminates chatter and vibration, protecting both the workpiece and the die grinder bearings from premature wear.

This specific model features the SG-5 Pointed Tree shape, making it exceptionally versatile for enlarging holes, contouring, and working in confined angled spaces where flat burrs cannot reach. The "DC" designation stands for Double Cut, utilizing an alternate diamond pattern fluting. This design breaks down chips into granular sizes rather than long, dangerous slivers, allowing for faster stock removal rates while simultaneously leaving a smoother surface finish compared to single-cut alternatives.

Ideal for MRO environments and fabrication shops, the Walter SG-5 DC excels on hard materials including stainless steel and high-tensile alloys. Its durability ensures a prolonged lifespan, maintaining cutting efficiency long after standard high-speed steel (HSS) burrs would have dulled. Whether used for deburring, enlarging holes, or surface leveling, this carbide burr delivers consistent, high-performance results.

FAQ

Single cut burrs have one set of flutes and produce long chips, often used for general removal. Double Cut (like this product) has cross flutes creating a diamond pattern, which produces smaller chips, allows for faster removal, and provides a smoother finish with better operator control.

It is designed primarily for ferrous metals, including steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature alloys. It is effective for heavy stock removal and finishing on these hard materials.

This carbide burr is designed for use with pneumatic or electric die grinders. Ensure your tool's collet size matches the burr's shank diameter.

The SG-5 is a 'Pointed Tree' shape. Its tapered point allows it to reach into tight angles, corners, and contours that cylindrical or ball-shaped burrs cannot access.

Tungsten carbide is significantly harder and more heat-resistant than High-Speed Steel (HSS). It lasts much longer, holds its cutting edge better, and can run at higher speeds for more efficient work.

Always wear ANSI-rated safety glasses or a face shield, hearing protection, and gloves. Carbide burrs spin at high speeds and throw hot metal chips.

While it can cut aluminum, Double Cut burrs may clog (load up) with soft aluminum. For aluminum, an 'Aluminum Cut' (Alu-Cut) burr with wider flutes is recommended to prevent clogging.

Walter burrs are manufactured for precise concentricity to minimize vibration. If you experience vibration, check your die grinder's collet for wear or ensure the burr is inserted fully.
