OVERVIEW

Technical Overview: Walter ALLSTEEL™ Carbide Burr SF-3

The Walter 01W314 is a premium-grade carbide burr from the ALLSTEEL™ series, specifically engineered for high-performance material removal on ferrous metals. This model features the SF-3 shape (Tree with Radius End), a geometry widely utilized for contouring, blending radii, and accessing confined areas where a rounded profile is required. Manufactured in the USA, these burrs are produced using advanced CNC machining and grinding processes that ensure concentricity and precise flute geometry. This attention to manufacturing detail results in a tool that maintains consistent cutting angles throughout its lifespan, reducing chatter and extending tool life.

The "Double Cut" configuration of this burr is critical for industrial applications. Unlike single cut burrs that produce long, sharp chips, the double cut design incorporates cross-flutes that break down material into small, manageable granular chips. This not only improves chip evacuation but also significantly reduces the pulling action often felt with single cut tools, allowing for greater operator control and reduced load on the spindle bearings of CNC machines or pneumatic die grinders. The carbide substrate is formulated to withstand the high heat and abrasion associated with grinding mild steel, stainless steel, and cast iron.

Industrial MRO professionals choose the Walter ALLSTEEL™ line for its reliability and consistency. The 01W314 is designed to operate effectively at high RPMs, typical of pneumatic die grinders, ensuring efficient stock removal without premature dulling. Whether used for weld preparation, leveling weld seams, or general deburring, this burr delivers a balance of aggression and finish quality that meets the rigorous demands of metal fabrication shops and maintenance departments.

FAQ

The SF-3 shape is a 'Tree with Radius End'. It is ideal for grinding curved surfaces, blending round corners, and contouring inside confined areas where a pointed or flat end would not fit.

Double Cut burrs have cross-flutes that break chips into smaller pieces. This results in a smoother finish, less vibration, and better operator control compared to Single Cut burrs.

While it can cut aluminum, it is not recommended. The ALLSTEEL™ double cut design may clog (load up) with soft aluminum. For aluminum, use a burr specifically designed for non-ferrous metals (Alu-Cut).

The ALLSTEEL™ series is optimized for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous metals.

This burr is designed for use with pneumatic or electric die grinders. Ensure your collet size matches the shank of the burr.

Walter ALLSTEEL™ carbide burrs are proudly made in the USA.

Carbide burrs generally run dry. However, using a lubricant wax can sometimes extend tool life and improve finish, though it is not strictly necessary for steel applications.

The radius end allows the operator to grind concave surfaces and fillets without gouging the material with a sharp corner.
