OVERVIEW

Premium Surface Cleaning with Walter Technology

The Walter 13E514 5-inch Stainless Steel Cup Brush is a top-tier abrasive tool designed for professionals who demand efficiency, safety, and longevity in their surface conditioning operations. Engineered specifically for use on stainless steel and aluminum, this brush utilizes high-quality stainless steel crimped wire. This material selection is critical for fabricators working with non-ferrous metals, as it prevents the risk of cross-contamination and subsequent oxidation (rust) that can occur when using standard carbon steel brushes on stainless surfaces.

Innovative Safety Supporting Ring

What sets this Walter cup brush apart is its integrated safety supporting ring. In standard wire brushes, centrifugal force often causes wires to flare outwards excessively, which can lead to premature wire breakage and potential safety hazards. The supporting ring on the 13E514 constrains the wires, maintaining a tight, controlled brush face. This not only ensures a more consistent cleaning action but also significantly enhances operator safety by reducing the likelihood of flying wire fragments.

Extended Life and Versatility

The design of the 13E514 is focused on maximizing value. As the wire bristles wear down during use, the safety supporting ring can be easily removed. This action reveals a fresh length of wire underneath, effectively extending the lifespan of the brush and reducing the frequency of replacements. This feature makes it an economical choice for high-volume shops.

Optimized for Light Cleaning

The crimped wire configuration is ideal for light to medium-duty applications. Unlike knotted wire brushes which are designed for aggressive material removal, crimped wire offers flexibility. It excels at removing paint, rust, scale, and surface contaminants without gouging the base metal. The brush is perfectly balanced to run smoothly on angle grinders, minimizing vibration and reducing operator fatigue during long shifts.

Applications

  • Cleaning stainless steel welds and surfaces

FAQ

The safety supporting ring prevents the wire bristles from flaring out excessively during use. This maintains a tighter brush face for better control and prevents premature wire breakage.

When the exposed wire wears down to the level of the ring, you can remove the safety supporting ring to expose a new length of wire, effectively extending the brush's usable life.

While it will physically work, it is not recommended. Using a stainless steel brush on carbon steel is a waste of the more expensive stainless material. Furthermore, once used on carbon steel, the brush becomes contaminated and should never be used on stainless steel again.

This brush has a 5/8"-11 threaded arbor and a 5-inch diameter, making it suitable for 5-inch, 6-inch, or larger angle grinders that support this spindle size and accessory diameter.

This is a crimped wire brush, which is better suited for light to medium surface cleaning, paint removal, and rust removal. For heavy slag or aggressive material removal, a knot-twisted wire brush would be more appropriate.

The maximum safe operating speed for the Walter 13E514 is 8,600 RPM. Always ensure your grinder's RPM does not exceed this rating.

Using stainless steel wire on aluminum prevents ferrous contamination. If you use a regular carbon steel brush, iron particles can become embedded in the aluminum, leading to rust spots and corrosion issues later.
